Crate Cafe is great. The pancakes are legendary, the coffee is decent, and the line out the door on weekends is a Canggu institution. But if you're staying longer than a week, you might want alternatives — quieter corners, better beans, more interesting food.

After years of cafe-hopping between writing sessions at our Canggu Surf Paradise, here are my seven favorites that aren't Crate.

1. Peloton Supershop

Sporty crowd, excellent breakfast burritos, and arguably the best single-origin coffee in Canggu. The back terrace catches the morning sun. Bring your laptop; wifi handles video calls without breaking a sweat.

2. Cafe Vida

Plant-based institution that's been quietly doing farm-to-table since 2014. The smoothie bowls are works of art, the vibe is Bali-zen without being twee, and they have one of the best outdoor garden spaces in the area.

3. The Lazy Cow

Tiny spot off the main Batu Bolong drag, easy to miss but worth finding. The coffee is excellent (local roastery), the banana bread is legendary, and it's never crowded. Bring cash, they don't always take cards.

4. Baked

5. Warung Bu Mi

Practical Tips for Canggu Cafe Scene

- Scooter parking — most cafes have a small lot out front. Don't park on the road (scooters get towed).

Wifi reality — most cafes advertise "fast wifi" but this means "fast enough for Instagram." If you're doing video calls or uploading large files, ask before you order.
Power outlets — limited. Most cafes have a few near the bar; otherwise bring a charged battery.
Cash backup — wifi outages happen, especially during rain. Have cash on hand.
